Data Centers
Four data centres. Two countries. All in Europe.
Not every workload belongs with one of the three big US hyperscalers. basis.no runs its own platform in data centres in Norway and Germany, operated by our own staff, under European law. This page shows where we are and why that matters.
Should all the world's compute run in three clouds?
Most of the world's cloud capacity is now owned by three US companies. They are good at what they do. But putting everything in the same few places carries risks that are easy to overlook.
This is not an argument against public cloud. Many of our customers use both. It is an argument for keeping critical systems and sensitive data somewhere you control. Read more on the EU Sovereign Cloud page.
Where we are, and what it means for you
We operate in four European data centres: three in Norway and one in Germany. You choose the location when your environment is set up.
- Norway – two sites in the Oslo area and one in Trondheim. Norway is part of the EEA, so GDPR applies in full.
- Germany – one site in Hamburg, for customers who need their data inside an EU member state.
- Data stays put – production data and backups stay in the location you choose.
- Our own equipment – the servers, network and platform in each data centre are ours. The facilities are provided by European-owned data centre companies, which are our only subcontractors.
- Our own people – the platform is operated 24/7/365 by basis.no staff in Norway and the EU.
One platform in every location
Every basis.no service, including Hosting for SAP, Managed Kubernetes, Kubernetes PaaS, Odoo Hosting and AI MCP Server for SAP, runs on the same platform with the same controls.
Energy use, cooling and heat reuse in our data centres are covered on the Sustainability page.
Norway or Germany? Let's find the right fit.
Tell us about your systems and any data residency requirements. We will recommend a location and a setup.
