Hosting for SAP
Your SAP systems in your own private cloud.
basis.no hosts and operates SAP systems in a dedicated tenant in our own data centres in Norway and Germany. We are responsible for everything from the data centre up to and including the SAP Basis layer, 24/7/365, for a fixed monthly price per system.
- 99.9% SAP application uptime SLA
- 1,000+ SAP databases
- Since 1999
Is this for you?
- 01
You run SAP and want one supplier for every layer, from the data centre up to SAP Basis.
- 02
You need an uptime SLA on the SAP application itself, not just the servers.
- 03
Your SAP data has to stay in Norway or Germany.
One provider for the whole stack
An SAP system depends on many layers: data centre, network, servers, storage, virtualisation, operating system, database, backup and the SAP Basis layer on top. When these are split between several suppliers, incidents turn into discussions about who owns the problem. With Hosting for SAP, basis.no owns all of them.
Who owns which layer
- SAP Basis services – system administration, kernel and support packages, transports, system copies and refreshes
- SAP support (OSS) – we raise and follow up incidents with SAP on your behalf
- Security and compliance – patching, hardening and a Security Operation Center (SOC)
- Configuration repository (CMDB) – your landscape, configuration and changes documented in one place
SAP application management (AMS), such as functional support, user and role administration and business process monitoring, is not part of Hosting for SAP. It can be handled by your own team or an application partner of your choice.
Your own tenant
Every customer gets a dedicated, isolated environment in our data centres. It is built on the same standardised design for all customers, which is what makes it possible to operate efficiently and predictably.
- Own network segment – your own network, firewalls, DMZ, VPN and servers, isolated from other customers
- Redundant by design – all components are virtualised, and all central components are set up redundantly
- Separate management network – all system administration is done over a dedicated management network, never over your production network
- Optimised for SAP – hardware, tools and methods are standardised and automated for SAP workloads (our SAP Hosting Factory)
- Room for more than SAP – supporting servers such as SAP Router, Cloud Connector, reverse proxy, print and file transfer run in the same tenant
How your users connect
You choose how users, partners and integrations reach the systems. The two models can be combined, for example VPN-less access for Fiori users and an IPsec tunnel for system-to-system integrations.
VPN-less access
Users log in with your existing identity provider. No VPN client on the user's device.
- Zero trust network access
- Works with your IdP, e.g. Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
- NGINX reverse proxy with web application firewall
- SAP Fiori over HTTPS and VPN-less SAP GUI
Classic network connection
A private network link between your offices and your tenant.
- IPsec VPN
- MPLS, SD-WAN or leased line
- SAP Router for SAP support access
- SAP Fiori and classic SAP GUI
Both models support integration with SAP BTP and other cloud services.

Data centres in Norway and Germany
Your systems and data stay in Norway or Germany, on our own platform in these data centres. This matters for data sovereignty, and for regulated sectors that need to document where data is stored and who has access to it.
- Facilities – redundant UPS, dual power supply, fire suppression and fibre connectivity between sites
- Certifications – ISO 27001 and ISAE 3402
- Regulation – operations aligned with DORA and NIS2 requirements
Fixed price per month
The price is built from three parts, so you can see exactly what you pay for and how the price changes when your landscape changes.
Common servicesDuty on call, service desk, monitoring, SOC and the other shared services in the table above.
Price per SAP systemA fixed price for each system (e.g. S/4HANA production, QA, development). Add or remove systems as your needs change.
Disk and backupA storage and backup package sized to your data volume.
Extra CPU and memory is included. You do not need to re-negotiate the contract when a system needs more capacity.
What to ask any SAP hosting provider
SAP systems are business-critical, so hosting is not only about servers. These are the questions we recommend asking before choosing a provider, and our answers.
- Does the SLA cover the SAP application, or only the infrastructure?Ours covers SAP application uptime, with a 99.9% availability guarantee.
- Who fixes the problem at 03:00?SAP Basis consultants on duty 24/7/365, not a generic infrastructure helpdesk. We respond to priority 1 incidents within 15 minutes.
- How are backup and disaster recovery handled?Backup, HA and DR are part of the service, and the setup is documented for your landscape. You decide how long backups are kept, and an air-gapped backup is available as protection against ransomware.
- How much SAP experience does the operations team have?basis.no has operated SAP systems since 1999 and runs more than 1,000 SAP databases today. The people who operate your systems are SAP Basis specialists.
- What happens when you need more capacity?CPU and memory growth is included. Systems are added or removed as you go.
- Where is the data, and who can access it?In Norway or Germany, in your own tenant, administered only over a separate management network.
How we get started
Moving SAP systems to a new platform is a project with a clear start and end. It typically follows these steps.
- Map the landscapeSystems, sizes, interfaces, users and connectivity requirements.
- Design the tenantNetwork, access model, sizing, backup and DR set-up, agreed with you.
- Agree price and SLAFixed monthly price per system, and the service level you need.
- MigratePlanned migration of each system, with test runs before the production cut-over.
- OperateHandover to 24/7 operations, with your TAM and Service Level Manager as named contacts.
Common questions
How is Hosting for SAP different from RISE with SAP?
With RISE, SAP operates the platform on a hyperscaler under an SAP subscription contract, and a large share of Basis work stays with you. With Hosting for SAP, basis.no operates the whole stack including SAP Basis, in data centres in Norway or Germany. If you are already on RISE, see our RISE support service.
Which SAP systems can you host?
SAP S/4HANA and other SAP systems, on SAP HANA and other databases, together with supporting components such as SAP Router, Cloud Connector and reverse proxies. We operate more than 1,000 SAP databases today.
You are not limited to SAP. Non-SAP applications, such as integration tools, file transfer, print servers or other business applications, can run in the same tenant. This keeps your landscape in one place, with one provider and one contract.
Who owns the systems and the data?
You do. Your SAP systems and all your data belong to you, and basis.no operates them on your behalf.
Because the tenant is dedicated to you, the landscape can be adapted to your needs: sizing, network and access, integrations, add-ons, supporting servers and non-SAP applications. There is no standard template you have to fit into.
Who handles application support and user administration?
Hosting for SAP covers the technical stack up to and including SAP Basis. Application management (AMS) is handled by your own team or an application partner. We can recommend partners we work with.
What if we need more capacity during the contract?
Extra CPU and memory is included in the monthly price. New systems can be added, and systems you no longer need can be removed.
